The bone-shaking rollercoaster, which delighted generations of holidaymakers, has been closed and dismantled after 60 years. Once a stalwart of the amusement park, the old wooden ride has been scrapped to make way for new developments. Pleasure Beach bosses told the Blackpool Gazette that the rollercoaster had been scrapped to ‘create an area for exciting new developments’. After very careful consideration and planning, our current winter work programme has seen the permanent closure and dismantling of the Wild Mouse and the removal of the facade of the former Trauma Tower attractions, this will create an area for future exciting developments.

The wooden roller coaster known as Wild Mouse has been scrapped by Pleasure Beach bosses – 60 years after it first launched. It was designed by a man called Frank Wright and first opened in 1958. The ride was one of the last remaining four wooden Wild Mouse roller coasters in the world, but it has been taken down to make way for more modern rides. The coaster was one of the smallest roller coasters at the park and in the last year it mainly remained closed to visitors. After very careful consideration, our winter work programme has seen the dismantling of the Wild Mouse and the removal of the facade of the former Trauma Tower attractions. This will create an area for future exciting developments. The owners finally decided to get rid of the ride this week.

Wild Mouse was a self-built wooden wild mouse roller coaster built by Blackpool Pleasure Beach that was previously located at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in Blackpool, Lancashire, England, UK.
For the 2017 season, a magnetic brake system was added to Wild Mouse.
Unfortunately, the new brake system caused the ride to face maintenance issues.
Because of this, Wild Mouse was closed for the rest of the year.
In January 2018, a photograph leaked online showed that Wild Mouse had been demolished without warning.
A statement was subsequently released by the park confirming that the coaster had been removed.
Following its closure, no wooden Wild Mouse roller coasters remain in the northern hemisphere.
Status is Defunct.
Operated from 1958 to 2017.

And whilst nothing official has been confirmed by the park just yet, I think it's safe to say that 2017 the legendary Wild Mouse coaster's last operating season at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Ironic, some might say, that in a year the park intend to open their Icon coaster they've demolished another who had spent close to 60 years building up that reputation for itself. Again, to reiterate, nothing has been confirmed but I would hazard a guess that this has all stemmed from some unresolvable H&S issues. After very careful consideration and planning, our current winter work programme has seen the permanent closure and dismantling of the Wild Mouse and the removal of the facade of the former Trauma Tower attractions. This will create an area for future exciting developments. Blackpool Pleasure Beach is a constantly evolving amusement park and has been for the past 122 years. The changes it has seen over the years are what has made it the great park it is today. This, coupled with a relatively small amount of space, means that in order to progress and look to the future we occasionally need to alter the landscape of the park to make way for future developments.

After remaining closed for the majority of the 2017 season, the ride was removed in January 2018 to make way for "future developments". The ride closed August 2017 prior to the season ending. The official line was that the ride was 'Closed for Maintenance', with the park reportedly ordering parts for further modernisation. After nearly six decades in operation, the Wild Mouse was unceremoniously torn down over the 2017–18 closed season with no prior announcement made. Indeed, the ride was cited as being "closed for maintenance" on the park's official website even after the removal had taken place. The management of Pleasure Beach Resort released a statement in January 2018 confirming the permanent removal of the ride from the park. The site has since been largely empty since the ride's removal, separated from the park by hoarding.
