Eyewitnesses feared a woman had died after she fell through a large gap on Central Pier in Blackpool. It is understood that a woman in her 50s fell through a section of the pier, landing on the beach below. A huge thud next to me, nearly on top of my head, a lady ploughed to the floor, smashing through the Central Pier. I was absolutely terrified, I thought she was dead. We were called to an incident at the pier after reports that a patient had fallen approximately 30ft through the pier. A woman in her 50s received initial treatment for her injuries before being extricated and taken to the hospital. Lancashire Police later confirmed the woman was taken to hospital with injuries.

The woman, believed to be in her 50s, was queuing for a fairground ride with two children when she fell more than 30ft to the beach below at around 4pm on August 6.
Beachgoers looked on in horror as police, paramedics and fire crews rushed to her aid before whisking her to hospital.
Photos from the scene showed a gaping hole in the pier following the incident.
It is believed to have been a service hole that would normally be covered up – it has since been boarded over.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police confirmed that as of yesterday the injured woman was still in hospital suffering with "quite serious injuries".
Dr Steve Taylor, describing himself as a “close family friend, GP and church leader”, set up a fundraiser yesterday.
He wrote on X: “I can’t believe of all people, she has been through so much & now fallen through a pier at Blackpool (shocking state of affairs) & has multiple spinal injuries.”
In an update to the GoFundMe, Taylor added that she will be “operated on today for spinal fractures and a broken arm”.
They have had the worst of times, he wrote.
Clearly this won’t fix the situation but maybe the future can be a little bit brighter with support.
He also added that the woman was “grateful for the support and care shown”.

A woman who fell 30 feet through Central Pier onto the beach is still in hospital, police have confirmed. Emergency services were called and onlookers rushed to helped after a woman, in her 50s, appeared to fall through a section of the pier at around 4.30pm yesterday. A woman in her 50s received initial treatment for her injuries before being extricated and taken to the hospital. The woman has been taken to hospital with injuries. At 16:33, the team was called out after an individual sustained injuries in a fall at central pier. The team supported North West Air Ambulance Charity paramedics who arrived by road from their base at Blackpool airport and Blackpool beach patrol, before extracting the casualty on our stretcher with the help of Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service to an ambulance where they were taken to the next level of care. We wish the person involved a speedy recovery.
