The service hole that would normally be covered up – it has since been boarded over. She will need a lot of support in the coming weeks. They have had the worst of times. Clearly this won’t fix the situation but maybe the future can be a little bit brighter with support.

They actually managed to get her out of bed for the first time in ten days to sit out for half an hour but the pain was quite bad. Ultimately she's getting there, she was quite tearful with me when Steve visited and she's still in quite a lot of pain. Now unable to work, Steve hopes that the fundraiser will go some way to easing some of the stress they will face while she will be recovering up to "four months". She's still in bed mainly. The whole thing is really shocking. I mean queuing up for the wheel on a pier you don't expect to suddenly fall through it.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: We responded with an ambulance, a critical care paramedic team, an advanced paramedic, and an operational commander. A woman in her 50s received initial treatment for her injuries before being extricated and taken to the hospital. The woman has been taken to hospital with injuries. The team supported North West Air Ambulance Charity paramedics who arrived by road from their base at Blackpool airport and Blackpool beach patrol, before extracting the casualty on our stretcher with the help of Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service to an ambulance where they were taken to the next level of care. We wish the person involved a speedy recovery.
