The Winter Gardens were built so that visitors to the Royal Baths could relax and stroll in any weather. An outstanding Grade II-listed building which contained Harrogate's former Royal Baths, sympathetically converted by Wetherspoon's. Tasteful conversion of the main hall of the vast Victorian Royal Baths complex retaining many original features, with Harrogate Turkish Baths next door. The pub can get busy due to its location near Harrogate’s conference and exhibition centre. A magnificent establishment in which lots of great drinking spaces have been skilfully created. There is a Hollywood-style staircase to boot. A wide range of ales, ciders and meals. On entering from the Parliament Street entrance, there is a lounge area with stone-arched side alcoves. A sweeping Hollywood-style bifurcated stone staircase carries you down to the spacious high-ceilinged bar area below.

In the 1930s, the Municipal Orchestra played every morning throughout the year at Winter Gardens, with free admission for the patients of the baths, according to the Wetherspoon website. The Winter Gardens was built as part of Harrogate’s former Royal Baths, where a variety of health conditions were ‘treated’. Pints have now replaced plants, making this one of Britain’s most elegant pubs. Sometimes you have to chuckle at the historical irony of Wetherspoons pubs – places like the Sedge Lynn, a former Temperance billiard hall in Manchester, or this venue, built as part of Harrogate’s former Royal Baths.

The Winter Gardens in Harrogate is built in the former Royal Baths, dating back to 1897. Former guests would be able to watch the MunicipalOrchestra, which played every morning throughout the year which had free entry to patients of the baths. It was eventually bought by Wetherspoons in 2007, and turned into the much-loved pub. Inside is a huge glass atrium, with many of the original features remaining. Lots of the original features remain at the pub. The Winter Gardens was part of the former Royal Baths.
