The site of the demolished Blackpool North railway station in use as a temporary car park. It served this purpose until work commenced on building the new Fine Fare supermarket (now Wilkinson’s). Friday 27 September 1974. For a couple of years the only vehicular access to the new station was from a ramp off Talbot Road, where High Street is now located.

The first station opened on 29 April 1846 as Talbot Road, and was first rebuilt in 1898. The main station building was demolished in 1974, replaced by the current station based on the former excursion platforms. The station was opened in its present form in 1974, and succeeded a previous station a few hundred yards away on Talbot Road which had first opened in 1846 and had been rebuilt in 1898. The present station is based on the 1938 concrete canopy which covered the entrance to the former excursion platforms of the old station. The station was recommended for closure in the Beeching Report, but following lobbying by Blackpool Corporation it was Blackpool Central - Blackpool's other centrally-located station, but whose site was better-suited for re-development - which closed in 1964. The station was rebuilt on site of former excursion platforms in 1974.

The original station was replaced in 1898 and it was eventually demolished in the 1970s to make way for the station we have today. Blackpool North superseded Talbot Road Station which was Blackpool’s first railway station, opening in 1846. It was renamed North Station in 1872 and in those days its front access was from Dickson Road.
