Blackpool Tower is a tall structure in Blackpool, a North England seaside town. It was built in the style of the Eiffel Tower. Building started in 1891 and finished in 1894. It cost £45000 (around $70000), is 518 ft tall and weighs 2586 tons. The oldest part of the building is the old aquarium which was part of Dr Cockers' Menagarie and Aquarium since the 1870s. It was inspired by the Eiffel Tower. The Mayor of Blackpool, John Bickerstaff, visited Paris in 1889 during the Great Paris Exhibition and fell in love with the Eiffel Tower. When he returned home he commissioned The Blackpool Tower to be built and even invested some of his own money. There were safety concerns about the tower due to the fact it's built with 2,500 tonnes of iron, five million bricks and is surrounded by buildings. So the tower was designed in a way that if it was ever to fall over it would fall into the sea instead of onto buildings around it. It's had numerous film appearances including Tim Burton’s movie ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’. The tower is home to several attractions including the elegant Blackpool Tower Ballroom, Dino Mini Golf, Blackpool Tower Dungeon and Blackpool Tower circus which has been wowing audiences since 1894.
